During the recently held Delhi Assembly elections, women’s safety surfaced as one of the central issues in the political discourse. It appeared in the political debates and manifestoes of all major contesting parties including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP),1 the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)2 and the Indian National Congress (INC). But how exactly did the ‘women’s question’ enter the political discourse?
